By Aaron Humes: A Ladyville man has reported an incident of online fraud to the Crime Investigation Branch at the Ladyville Police Station. The report came to light following a series of transactions involving an online vendor known as “Electronica Belize.”
On April 22, the complainant was browsing Facebook and stumbled upon the purported electronics retailer’s page. Intrigued by the offers, he reached out via WhatsApp to inquire about a 32-inch television. Following a negotiation, he was redirected to make a payment to an Atlantic Bank account.
In total, he transferred $185 to the account after confirming the transaction with a screenshot sent to Electronica Belize. However, complications arose the next day when he received a message stating that the television he purchased was cracked. The seller offered an alternative 40-inch model for an additional $15, along with an $18 shipping fee. Trusting the vendor, he made a second payment, totaling $33.
After providing his shipping address and contact details, he attempted to follow up on the order, but his messages to the WhatsApp number were met with silence. As of the filing of his report, he has yet to receive the 40-inch television or a refund for the total amount of $218.
Police investigations continue.
