Only Nine Will Survive: Calypso Monarch Semi-Finals Set for High-Stakes Showdown

Eighteen calypsonians remain in the hunt for Saint Lucia’s most coveted calypso title, but by the end of next Sunday’s semi-finals, half of them will see their Monarch dreams come to an end.

Following a fiercely contested quarter-final round that attracted hundreds of patrons across the island, 18 performers have secured places in the Calypso Monarch Semi-Finals, where only nine will advance to challenge defending Calypso Monarch Dezral for the 2026 crown.

The quarter-finals highlighted the strength and diversity of Saint Lucian calypso, with competitors delivering powerful performances rooted in current affairs, national pride, social commentary and satire. From hard-hitting messages to crowd-pleasing lyrical exchanges, performers demonstrated why the Calypso Monarch competition remains one of the most anticipated events of the carnival season.

Now, the pressure intensifies.

Representing the island’s four calypso tents, the semi-finalists are Anwar, Ashe, Blaze, Carlton Roberts, Devine, Educator, Gumtion, Herb Black, John Gotti, Lushanne, Menell, Mica, Nacheal, Ready, Snow, Tc Brown, Ti Carro and Walleigh. Each will take the stage knowing that a single performance could determine whether their journey continues or comes to an abrupt end.

With reigning Monarch Dezral awaiting the challengers in the final, the semi-finals are expected to deliver an afternoon of intense competition as veterans and rising stars battle for the remaining places on the biggest calypso stage in the country.

The Calypso Monarch Semi-Finals will be held on Sunday, June 28, at the National Cultural Centre from 4 p.m. Advance tickets cost $40, while admission at the door is $60.

For the 18 contenders, the mission is simple: survive the cut, earn a place in the final, and move one step closer to claiming Saint Lucia’s ultimate calypso prize.
