TWO men have been arrested for vandalising a Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) transformer, which they stripped of its copper windings.

The pair of Michael Mandizvidza (26) and Moses Mapuradzi (42) was later busted by police for unlawful possession of copper windings on Thursday while transporting the contraband from Mhondoro-Mubaira to Harare supposedly for sale.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Michael Mandizvidza (26) and Moses Mapuradzi (42) for unlawful possession of copper windings on May 21, 2026.

“The suspects, who were travelling as passengers in a kombi from Mubaira to Harare, were intercepted at a police checkpoint at Mamina,” said Nyathi.

“During a search, police recovered a 20-litre plastic bucket containing 60kg of copper windings.

“Subsequent investigations established that the suspects had allegedly vandalised a ZESA transformer at Kwari Primary School in Mubaira.”
