The 4th NCBA Coast Junior Open concluded in thrilling fashion at the scenic Nyali Golf & Country Club, with standout performances and a dramatic finish highlighting the final round of the three-day championship.
Maahir Patel of Sigona Golf Club emerged as the coys’ champion after a tense battle with Ghana’s Kingsley Afful on Monday, 20th April 2026.
The two players were tied heading into the 18th hole, but Patel held his nerve to secure victory with a crucial par, while Afful carded a bogey.

Patel closed with a round of 77 to finish at 15-over-par (228), just one shot ahead of Afful at 16-over-par (229).
Reflecting on his victory, Patel said: “If someone told me at the turn that I would go on to win, I wouldn’t have believed them.” He added: “I dedicate this win to my parents for their support.”

Justin Ngeera of Vet Lab Sports Club, the Round 2 leader, finished at 18-over-par (231), settling for the 14-15 Years Old Boy Winner.
In the girls’ division, Cherono Kipkorir of Royal Nairobi Golf Club delivered a composed performance to secure the title with a total of 21-over-par (234), following rounds of 81, 78, and 75.

Kipkorir expressed her gratitude after the win, stating: “I would like to thank my parents, Nyali Golf & Country Club, the Junior Golf Foundation, and NCBA Bank for organizing and supporting this tournament. This is my first major junior tournament after a break due to injury and I am excited to be the champion here.”
Both champions also shared their excitement at earning entry into the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), marking an important milestone in their golfing careers.
The tournament also recognized outstanding performances across various age categories:

- 19–21 years Boys: Aaron Mutisya (Winner), Ekron Odhiambo (Runner-up)
- 16–21 years Girls: Maryam Mwakitawa (Winner), Faith Achieng (Runner-up)
- 16–18 years Boys: Kingsley Afful (Winner), Myles Wahome (Runner-up)
- 14–15 years Boys: Justin Ngeera (Winner), Jeff Kivi (Runner-up)
- 14–15 years Girls: Shani Karimi (Winner)
- Under 13 Boys: Alexander Mbugua (Winner), Mikhail Ladak (Runner-up)
- Under 13 Girls: Britney Nyanchera (Winner), Nyawira Macharia (Runner-up)
Played over a challenging par-71 layout, the championship brought together top junior talent from across the country and Ghana who competed for World Amateur Golf Ranking and Junior Golf Foundation order of merit points.
Backed by the NCBA Bank Group, the NCBA Coast Junior Open continues to provide a premier platform for young golfers to showcase their skills and gain valuable competitive experience.
The 2026 edition once again highlighted the depth of emerging talent in Kenya with players demonstrating resilience, composure, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
