President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani confirmed that the “Assistance” program to support low-income families was launched in response to the needs of the most vulnerable citizens amid the current economic conditions. He stressed that the most disadvantaged groups will remain at the forefront of the government’s priorities, especially during exceptional circumstances.

In a statement following his supervision of the program’s launch on Friday evening in the Nouakchott North Region, the President explained that the initiative will benefit more than 352,000 families registered in the social registry, representing nearly two million citizens. Of these, 155,000 families will receive assistance consisting of food supplies and cash transfers, while 200,000 families will receive cash transfers. He emphasized that behind these figures are women, men, elderly individuals, children, and families who are in need of support during this particular period.

The President affirmed that improving citizens’ living conditions, combating poverty, and strengthening social protection for vulnerable groups are key priorities within the government’s public policies. He noted that the government will continue mobilizing the necessary resources to expand social support programs and assist those most in need.

He reiterated the state’s commitment to standing alongside citizens and continuously monitoring economic developments, emphasizing that public authorities will take whatever measures are necessary to ease the burdens that the population may face.

In concluding his remarks, the President praised the efforts made by the various government sectors, administrative authorities, and all stakeholders involved in preparing and implementing the operation. He called for ensuring that assistance reaches its rightful beneficiaries with full transparency and fairness, in conditions that preserve citizens’ dignity and take their needs into account
