A high-level business delegation from the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce has arrived in Saint Lucia for a five-day trade mission aimed at strengthening regional partnerships, expanding investment opportunities, and accelerating economic collaboration between Caribbean territories.

The mission brings together businesses operating across manufacturing, food and beverage, tourism support services, logistics, fashion, music production, ICT, construction materials, and the wider creative sector. Organizers say the packed itinerary includes business-to-business meetings, networking sessions, strategic discussions, and site visits designed to help companies secure new buyers, distributors, and long-term commercial partnerships in Saint Lucia.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Trade and Business Development Manager for the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber, Marc Sandy, said the initiative builds on longstanding ties between both nations and comes at a critical moment for the Caribbean economy.

He noted that regional businesses are being forced to adapt to global uncertainty, supply chain disruptions, climate vulnerabilities, and changing consumer markets, while stressing that deeper Caribbean collaboration could unlock new growth opportunities.

“This mission comes at a particularly important time for our region,” Sandy stated, explaining that Caribbean economies are navigating major global challenges that require stronger regional cooperation and intentional trade partnerships.

Local business leaders also used the occasion to push for stronger regional self-reliance amid changing geopolitical realities.

Executive Director of the Saint Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Brian Louisy, argued that Saint Lucia must continue strengthening regional trade relationships instead of depending heavily on traditional international partners. He pointed to the island’s long-standing commitment to regional integration, noting that Saint Lucia has remained one of the leading importers of CARICOM trade for more than three decades.

“Now more than ever, Saint Lucia should continue looking to the region,” Louisy stated, adding that the island has no interest in prioritizing non-CARICOM countries over regional partners.

He further stressed that current global shifts are forcing Caribbean nations to rethink old economic dependencies and place greater focus on strengthening trade within the region.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of Invest Saint Lucia, Octavian Charles, revealed that groundwork for the mission had already begun before the delegation arrived on island. According to Charles, virtual pre-mission meetings allowed companies from both countries to begin matching business interests and identifying opportunities ahead of the in-person engagements now taking place.

The trade mission is expected to conclude later this week, with both chambers expressing optimism that the discussions could lead to new trade agreements, investment opportunities, and stronger economic resilience across the CARICOM region.
