St. Kitts and Nevis is on the verge of a major tourism milestone, with cruise arrivals already surpassing 918,000 passengers and officials projecting even stronger growth as the destination records its most successful post-pandemic cruise season to date.

Tourism Minister Marsha Henderson announced that the twin-island nation has welcomed 918,198 cruise passengers so far this season, a figure that continues to climb as additional vessels are scheduled to call before the season concludes.

The milestone places St. Kitts and Nevis within reach of the one-million-passenger mark and signals what tourism officials describe as the strongest cruise recovery since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global travel.

“Tourism continues to stand as one of the strongest pillars of our economy and remains a vital driver of growth, community engagement, job creation and national transformation,” Henderson said during a recent press conference.

While visitor growth remains a key objective, Henderson stressed that government policy is equally focused on increasing the economic value generated by tourism.

“Our focus is not just about increasing the number of visitors, but improving the quality of spend,” she said.

According to the Minister, the surge reflects years of strategic engagement with cruise operators and industry stakeholders aimed at strengthening St. Kitts’ position within the highly competitive Caribbean cruise market.

She noted that the destination has not only increased cruise calls and passenger arrivals but has also expanded partnerships and improved the resilience of the sector.

Activity at Port Zante remains strong, with multiple vessels continuing to berth throughout the summer period. Henderson described the current season as the destination’s strongest summer cruise performance in years.

The government’s outreach efforts have included direct engagement with global cruise executives at Seatrade Global 2026, one of the industry’s most influential events. Discussions focused on enhancing visitor experiences, strengthening shore excursion offerings and securing future cruise deployments.

Those efforts are already yielding results.

Henderson confirmed that St. Kitts has secured a place on the Caribbean itinerary of the MSC World Europa for the 2026-2027 winter cruise season. The vessel, one of the world’s largest cruise ships, is expected to bring thousands of additional visitors to the destination.

Officials are also investing heavily in cruise infrastructure to support future growth. Ongoing upgrades at Port Zante include visitor amenities, seating improvements and aesthetic enhancements designed to strengthen first impressions for arriving passengers.

Long-term plans include the development of a new cruise terminal and a broader strategy to transform St. Kitts from a traditional port of call into a transit port by 2027, a move expected to generate additional economic opportunities for local businesses and tourism stakeholders.

With arrivals nearing one million and new cruise partnerships already secured, tourism officials believe St. Kitts and Nevis is positioning itself for another phase of expansion as Caribbean destinations compete for a larger share of the global cruise market.

The latest figures underscore the growing role of cruise tourism in the federation’s economic recovery and reinforce the sector’s importance as a key engine of national development.
