KAMPALA: TANZANIA and Uganda have met in Kampala to discuss the implementation of various joint oil and gas projects as part of efforts to strengthen energy cooperation between the two countries.
The discussions were confirmed by Tanzania’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy responsible for Oil and Natural Gas Affairs, Dr James Mataragio, following a joint meeting with Uganda’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Ireni Paulene Bateebe, in Kampala.
Speaking after the meeting, Dr Mataragio said the two countries discussed progress on several strategic energy projects, including the Clean Petroleum Products Pipeline, the construction of a Marine Storage Terminal at the Port of Tanga, and plans to transport natural gas from Tanzania to Uganda.
He stressed that the outcome of the meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by the governments of Tanzania and Uganda to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector and ensure the effective implementation of joint projects.

Dr Mataragio also noted that Tanga is continuing to be developed as a dedicated energy hub that will serve Tanzania as well as other countries across the region.
During their visit to Uganda, the officials also participated in the launch of the country’s Kampala Storage Terminal, a facility for storing petroleum products.
Dr Mataragio was accompanied by Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) Managing Director Mussa Makame and Petroleum Commissioner at the Ministry of Energy, Godluck Shirima.
