Togo Secures €24m Backing for New Drone Technology Initiative With Poland

Togo and Poland have taken a new step in strengthening bilateral cooperation in digital technology and innovation following the visit of Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital, Krzysztof Gawkowski, to Lomé.

During the visit, officials signed a funding agreement to support the launch of Africa Drone Company, an initiative that will be implemented by Cyber Defense Africa. The project is designed to help Togo develop local capabilities in drone design, assembly and deployment, with expected applications across key sectors including security, agriculture, logistics, industry and the monitoring of critical infrastructure.

The initiative is backed by €24 million in financing mobilised by Polish public bank BGK under the European Union’s Global Gateway programme. According to Togolese authorities, the project aligns with the country’s broader ambition to strengthen technological capacity, encourage skills transfer and build local expertise in strategic future-focused sectors.

The Togolese government said the partnership reflects its continued commitment to digital transformation and technological sovereignty. Authorities also highlighted the importance of developing local talent and infrastructure that can sustainably support the country’s national priorities.

Officials expressed appreciation to all partners involved in advancing the cooperation, describing the initiative as an important milestone in Togo’s digital and innovation agenda.
