Tom Magambo: I don’t blame you for what happened to my son

The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) Director Maj. Tom Magambo has paid an emotional tribute to his wife, Carol, describing her as a strong pillar of their family following the tragic death of their son, Timothy Muganzi Magambo.

Speaking during a requiem Mass at Our Lady of Africa, Mbuya Catholic Parish, an emotional Magambo commended his wife for her resilience, especially in raising their children.

“I don’t blame you for what happened to Timothy. It was his time, and you did your best,” Magambo said.

The CID Director also revealed the immense personal and professional pressure he has endured in recent days, noting that he had to continue executing national duties despite his loss.

“This week has been very difficult for me. There is political indiscipline, and I had tasks assigned by the President. Even as my son passed on, I could not ask my troops to stop and mourn—I had to ensure the work was completed,” he said.

Timothy, 18, died last week after drowning during a swimming outing in Long Island, New York, United States.

His body was flown back into the country in the early hours of Tuesday morning, according to Barugahara Balaam Ateenyi, former State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs.

“We received the remains of our beloved son Timothy at 2:00am. He tragically drowned last week in the USA,” Balaam said.

The requiem Mass is being held today at Mbuya Catholic Parish in Kampala, after which the body will be transported to Kisarabwire Village in Masindi Municipality for a vigil at the family home.

Burial is scheduled for Thursday at 2:00pm.
Timothy had just completed his first year at the University at Albany, New York, and was described by family and friends as a promising young man.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Saturday, May 16, when he went swimming with a group of friends in waters off Long Island.

The group had travelled from Shelter Island to Wade’s Beach, also known as Shell Beach. While attempting to swim across a channel, Timothy became separated from his friends.

A search and rescue operation was launched after he was reported missing, and his body was later recovered about 100 yards from where he was last seen.
He had been living with his mother in New York, where she works with the United Nations.

His death has left a deep sense of grief among family, friends, and the wider community.
