Top cricket analyst and commentator Dan Jadz has ranked Zimbabwe as the eighth-best team at the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, placing them ahead of traditional powerhouses England and the Netherlands.
Zimbabwe opened their campaign with a convincing victory over Oman, where breakout star Brian Bennett and veteran Brendan Taylor led the run chase, reaching the target with 39 balls to spare.
Blessing Muzarabani was named Player of the Match after contributing 16 runs and claiming three wickets.
Zimbabwe followed that performance with a stunning 23-run victory over Australia cricket team at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
Defending a competitive total of 169, Zimbabwe’s pace attack, led by Muzarabani’s outstanding figures of 4 for 17, dismantled Australia’s top order and sealed one of the biggest upsets of the tournament so far.
“Blessing Muzarabani was brilliant. They played really nicely. They are going to be an interesting prospect in that group with Australia and Sri Lanka cricket team,” said Jadz.
Zimbabwe will now shift their focus to a crucial Group B clash against the Ireland cricket team at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
A victory in that match would virtually secure Zimbabwe’s place in the Super 8 stage, further cementing their status as one of the tournament’s surprise contenders.
