Tyrese Gibson lands in Uganda to boost coffee tourism

American Hollywood star and singer Tyrese Gibson has landed in Uganda for a three-day visit aimed at promoting the country’s coffee tourism, culture and investment opportunities.

Gibson, best known for his role in the Fast & Furious film franchise, is in the country at the invitation of the Government of Uganda and private-sector partners and will headline the launch of the Explore Uganda Coffee Tourism campaign.

The campaign will officially be launched at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and brings together the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Africa Coffee Park.

The initiative seeks to market Kampala and other parts of Uganda as destinations where tourists can experience the country’s coffee value chain while exploring its natural attractions, culture and heritage.

During his stay, Gibson is expected to visit the Source of the Nile, one of Uganda’s major tourism attractions, before travelling to western Uganda where he will meet coffee farmers and participate in a coffee-tree planting activity.

He is also scheduled to meet President Yoweri Museveni as Uganda seeks to use his international profile to shine a spotlight on the country’s tourism and investment potential.

Gibson’s visit comes at a time when Uganda is increasingly looking beyond traditional wildlife tourism to promote experiences that connect visitors with local communities, agriculture, culture and locally produced products.

The Explore Uganda Coffee Tourism campaign is expected to use Uganda’s position as a major coffee producer to create new tourism experiences around the crop, allowing visitors to move beyond consuming coffee to experiencing how it is grown, harvested and processed.

For Uganda’s tourism sector, Gibson’s presence provides an opportunity to take the country’s coffee story to a wider international audience through his global following in entertainment.

Gibson has built a successful career in both Hollywood and music. He is widely known for playing Roman Pearce in the Fast & Furious franchise, including 2 Fast 2 Furious.

Beyond acting, Gibson is an established musician whose hit single How You Gonna Act Like That has attracted hundreds of millions of views on YouTube.

His visit is therefore expected to generate international attention for Uganda’s tourism offerings while also promoting coffee as part of the country’s broader cultural and tourism experience.

Officials and private-sector partners behind the campaign hope the initiative will strengthen the link between coffee production, tourism and local communities, while creating new opportunities for farmers and other players in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

The three-day visit will conclude after Gibson’s engagements with tourism stakeholders, farmers and government officials, with organisers expecting the campaign to give Uganda’s coffee tourism ambitions a fresh international push.
