The sound of dominoes slamming, laughter echoing, and teams rallying behind each play filled the West Indian Service Personnel Club in Clapham on 2 May, as the inaugural UK Round Robin Domino Tournament reached its semi-final stage.
Hosted by the Clapham Eagles on their home ground, the event brought together six teams from across the UK in what has quickly become more than just a competition. It is a celebration of culture, connection, and community.
“This is what dominoes is about,” said one player. “It is competition, yes, but it is also about bringing people together, sharing space, and keeping a cultural tradition alive.””
On the tables, the action was just as compelling. In Semi-Final 1, White Knights produced a composed and confident performance, defeating Cosmo 88–64 and securing their place in the final.
In Semi-Final 2, Bradfield delivered one of the standout performances of the day, overpowering Croydon 103–75 in a dominant display.
Meanwhile, pride and positioning were on the line in the 5th–6th place playoff, where Clapham Eagles rose to the occasion in front of their home crowd, defeating Brixton Immortals 97–87 in a spirited contest.
Beyond the scores, what stood out most was the atmosphere. Even in high-stakes moments, matches were played with respect, camaraderie, and a shared understanding of the game’s deeper significance.
“We are building something here,” Megel Barker reflected. “There is a community growing around it.”
All eyes now turn to the Final on 23 May, set to take place at the Karibu Education Centre in Brixton.
The headline match will see Bradfield take on White Knights for the championship title, while Cosmo face Croydon in the battle for third place.
The competition will also conclude with a final showdown between Brixton Immortals and Clapham Eagles to determine fifth and sixth place.
As the tournament reaches its conclusion, one thing is clear: the UK Round Robin is not just ending a season, it is laying the foundation for something much bigger.
