The Tertiary Institutes Sports Association of Namibia recently engaged the national Olympic committee to formalise a strategic partnership aimed at revitalising local university sport.
Tisan spokesperson Matheus Tobias says the purpose of the engagement was to collaborate with the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC), “a key umbrella body within Namibia’s sport ecosystem”.
“The engagement aimed to strengthen working relations, exchange ideas on governance matters, and identify areas of cooperation.
“The NNOC has historically benefited from athletes developed within Tisan structures, making this collaboration both strategic and timely,” he says.
Tobias says discussions highlighted that an agreement between Tisan and the national Olympic committee is imminent, “which will guide structured collaboration and sustained engagement between the two bodies”.
He says specific areas of collaboration between the two entities identified several key areas including governance, leadership training for sport administrators.
“Also capacity building in event management, athlete identification and monitoring, and particularly aligning Tisan athletes with the NNOC’s elite athlete categorisation and priority sport codes.”
Tobias says those areas will contribute significantly to strengthening the national sport development pathway.
“Subject to all preparations proceeding as planned, the inaugural Tisan Games are expected to take place in October 2026, prior to the commencement of higher education examinations in November.
“Tisan therefore calls upon all stakeholders, supporters and well-wishers to partner with and support the initiative financially, to ensure the successful hosting of this important national student sporting event.”
The NNOC on social media says it is pleased to have received a courtesy visit from Tisan president Bernardo Evaristus, together with treasurer Eron Kuzatjike and office administrator Roline Diergaardt.
It further says Tisan’s visit provided an opportunity to strengthen relations, exchange ideas, and explore opportunities for future collaboration in support of sport development in Namibia.
“We thank the Tisan delegation for their visit and look forward to continued engagement,” the committee says.
