USC Suspends Player Just One Game After Brutal Hit on Oregon QB, Social Media Disgusted
USC defensive back Desman Stephens II was suspended one game after a hit knocked Oregon quarterback Dante Moore out of Saturday’s game.

It was supposed to be a matchup of two highly ranked teams playing for supremacy on Saturday night on national television. Instead, the game devolved into a brutal hit on a defenseless quarterback that ended in taunting and sideline smiles as the quarterback was carted off the field in an ambulance.
Oregon quarterback Dante Moore was hospitalized Saturday night after USC defensive back Desman Stephens II delivered a brutal hit during the second quarter.
Moore was sliding after scrambling with the ball when Stephens dove into him, sending the back of Moore’s head crashing into the turf. Moore remained on the ground for several moments before being carted off the field and taken to Los Angeles County Memorial Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a concussion.
Stephens was ejected for the hit, but the controversy continued after he celebrated with teammates and appeared to taunt Oregon players. The actions sparked a confrontation between the teams, with players shoving each other on the field.
On Sunday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that USC suspended Stephens for one game. The Trojans, who were ranked No. 18 entering the game, lost 41-27 to No. 15 Oregon and will host Washington on Oct. 3.
The one-game suspension drew criticism online, with some fans arguing Stephens should have received a more severe punishment given the hit and his behavior afterward.
USC coach Lincoln Riley called Stephens’ actions “unacceptable,” saying they did not reflect the football program or Stephens’ character. Riley added that Stephens accepts responsibility and will learn from the incident.
Oregon backup quarterback Dylan Raiola replaced Moore and threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns as the Ducks improved to 3-1.
Despite the scary injury, Oregon has reason for optimism. CBS Sports reported that Moore will enter concussion protocol and is expected to return this season.
