THE Consulate General of India in Vancouver celebrated Vishwa Hindi Diwas on Friday, January 9 at Fraserview Banquet Hall in Vancouver, bringing together language lovers and cultural ambassadors under one roof.

More than 225 Hindi enthusiasts from several Indian community organisations in the Lower Mainland participated in the event. The celebration demonstrated a shared commitment to promoting Hindi and Indian culture.

Organisations such as Bhartiya Kala Evam Sahitya Parishad, Hindi Literary Society of Canada, Global Hindu Foundation, Manaswini Creative Kalam Club, Sri Jagannath Cultural Society, Sudnya Dance Academy, Mudra Dance Academy, Ganesh Hindi School, and Vedic Hindi School contributed through vibrant performances, alongside individual artists.

The evening was emceed by Harish Masand and Reshma Misra and began with the traditional lighting of the lamp by Consul General Masakui Rungsung. In his remarks, Rungsung highlighted the importance of Hindi as a vital link to India’s culture and heritage. He expressed heartfelt appreciation to the diaspora and organisations working tirelessly to nurture the language in Canada.

The program featured a rich blend of speeches, dialogues, poetry recitations, and musical renditions. At the outset, Vice Consul Vasu Jyoti Sharma read out Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message on World Hindi Day. In his message, the Prime Minister noted that Hindi is not merely a language but a powerful medium to showcase India’s progress, heritage, and values on the global stage. He also observed that Hindi’s simplicity and clarity have contributed to its growing acceptance in the digital and technical spheres, especially among youth—an encouraging sign of the language’s bright future.

Participants reflected on the evolution of Hindi, its roots in multiple languages, and its contemporary relevance. For some, speaking Hindi rekindled cherished memories; for others, it reaffirmed timeless Indian values. The audience was captivated by classical dance performances by Sudnya Dance Academy, Mudra School of Dance, and Sri Jagannath Cultural Society.

The evening concluded with the felicitation of participants with certificates and a vote of thanks by Consul Ravinder Mangla, leaving attendees with a renewed sense of cultural pride and a deeper connection to their heritage and the Hindi language.
