Some employees at the City of Windhoek headquarters say one of the buildings has been without water since last week, forcing them to use mobile toilets at the parking lot.
The employees say they are embarrassed by the situation.
City of Windhoek spokesperson Lydia Amutenya yesterday confirmed that one of the buildings at the head office is currently experiencing a water supply interruption due to underground pipe leaks that were detected on the premises.
“Initial repair works were concluded on Monday, 16 February. However, a further leak was subsequently identified.
It was repaired and water supply was reinstated last night to part of the building, and some sections are now fully restored,” she said.
However, Amutenya, said a portion of the old Town House building remains without water, and that the repair team is currently on site working to resolve the matter urgently.
She said full restoration of services is expected once the repairs are completed.
One staff member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, says it is a challenge with only two mobile toilets that neither flush nor have chemicals.
“It was a challenge, mostly the past two days.
One of the buildings has eight floors, so imagine when nature calls and one is at the top floor.
Most of the time when you go to the toilet it is already occupied,” he says.
Another employee says she had to go home to use the toilet because she was on her period.
“I could not make use of the toilets because of my condition,” she says.
