29-year-old man arrested for alleged rape of elderly woman in Limpopo
Mashaba says the suspect fell asleep after the rape and the woman called community members for help

A 29 year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping an 89-year old woman at Nyavani village, outside Malamulele in Limpopo.
Police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba says the suspect entered a room where the woman was sleeping. When the elderly woman told him that she did not have any money, he allegedly raped her. Mashaba says the suspect fell asleep after the rape and the woman called community members for help.
“Police were summoned to the scene, and the suspect was arrested. He is currently under police guard at a local hospital following injuries sustained after being assaulted by community members. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest of the suspect following assistance by community members. Meanwhile, she also warned community members not to take law into their own hands. The suspect is expected to appear before the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court soon.” -Reporting by Anna Masipa
