62-year-old Belizean-American charged for allegedly breaking locks to 85-year-old dad’s house

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A family dispute between an 85-year-old father and his 62-year-old son escalated into criminal proceedings on Friday, with the son taken before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a charge of damage to property.

Evan Delsworth Grenwich Wade, described as a retired veteran who spends time between California and Belize, was arraigned after his father, Carl Wade, accused him of damaging locks at his Keating Crescent home in Buttonwood Bay.

Wade is accused of damaging two padlocks and two deadbolt locks valued at a total of $130 on Thursday, September 17.

Represented by attorney Bryan Neal, Wade pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of $300 plus one surety in the same amount. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 18, 2026.

According to the complaint made to police, Carl Wade had gone to the Belize Family Court a day earlier seeking a protection order against his son amid ongoing family disagreements, but his application was reportedly unsuccessful.

The elder Wade subsequently had several locks at his property changed. Police were later called to the residence when Wade’s grandson arrived, and the grandson reportedly packed his belongings and voluntarily left.

Carl Wade told police that he stayed elsewhere that night after being advised to do so. The following morning, he was informed that his son was at the residence.

When police and Carl Wade returned to the property, five locks were reportedly found damaged.

Carl also alleged that several personal items were missing from inside the house, including two passports, two sets of land documents, a vehicle certificate and cash. Police processed the scene and recorded a statement from the 85-year-old, who requested court action.

Following the investigation, Evan Wade was charged with one count of damage to property. Despite allegations concerning missing items from the home, the court information provided indicates that no burglary or theft charge was read to Wade at Friday’s arraignment.

Attorney Neal told the court that while Wade had been staying at his father’s home to assist in caring for him, he normally resides in Dangriga.
