ABRSC essay competition ends

Approximately 20 students participated in the essay competition, hosted by the Antigua Barbuda Reparations Support Commission (ABRSC) with applicants drawn from secondary, college and university level institutions across Antigua and Barbuda.

The competition themed “Reparatory Justice: Reflection and Projection,” challenged students to “critically examine the meaning, relevance, and future of reparatory justice within

Antigua and Barbuda and the wider Caribbean context.”

“The ABRSC is encouraged by the level of participation and the quality of interest shown by young people in this important area of national and regional significance,” a release from the Commission said.

The ABRSC expressed commendations to all students who took the time to “research, reflect, and articulate their perspectives on a matter that continues to shape conversations around justice, development, identity, and repair”.

The competition is now in the judging phase, with a panel comprised of academics, writers, creatives and advocates of the reparatory justice system – a measure the ABRSC said will ensure an evaluation process that is both fair and thoughtful.

Winners of the competition will be announced by May 22nd with a prize-giving ceremony scheduled for May 29th.
