The most successful African nation will play at the World Cup for the fourth time and face a relatively manageable group that has Belgium, New Zealand and Iran.
Salah and company will hope to mark their return to the global showpiece more memorable after they missed the last edition in Qatar.
Head coach – Hossam Hassan
Regarded as one of the most prolific Egyptian players of all time, Hossam Hassan is the head coach of the Pharaohs.
Since 2008, he has coached several teams including Al Masry, Zamalek and Ismaily.
Hassan took the reins of the national team in February 2024, succeeding Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria, and has worked to reinforce the Pharaohs’ reputation as fighters.
His efforts have been rewarded with a ticket to the World Cup 2026 after Egypt finished the qualifiers undefeated – their first such run in 91 years – and now he is eyeing an even greater achievement on the global stage.
How they qualified
On their way to qualifying for the 2026 edition, Egypt collected 26 points dropping just four in the process.
They were shoulders above opponents in Group A who included Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
The Pharaohs’ campaign, which began under Rui Vitoria (with wins over Djibouti 6-0 and Sierra Leone 2-0) before Hossam Hassan took over, was marked by attacking potency and defensive resilience.
The team scored 20 goals, including nine from Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, while conceding only two, underlining their credentials for a triumphant return to the global showcase.

Egypt’s top scorers in World Cup History
Abdelrahman Fawzi and Mohamed Salah share this honour with two goals each.
Fawzi bagged his brace in a match against Hungary during Egypt’s debut outing at Italy 1934, becoming the first Arab and first African player ever to score at a World Cup – although it ended in a 4-2 defeat.
Salah notched his two goals at Russia 2018, netting against both Russia and Saudi Arabia to earn a place alongside Fawzi in Egyptian football lore.
The Liverpool legend could break the record in North America and claim the record outright.
