CAF CL: Medeama suffer preliminary round exit after defeat in Lubumbashi against TP Mazembe

Ghana Premier League champions Medeama Sporting Club have been eliminated from the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.

Their elimination follows a 3-1 defeat to TP Mazembe in the second leg of their preliminary round fixture as the tie ended 4-1 on aggregate.

Having conceded a late goal in the first meeting, the Tarkwa-based side went into the second game hoping to turn the tie around.

However, their problems were compounded by a goal concession in the 16th minute of the game when Patrick Mwaungulu opened the scoring for the home side to give them a 2-0 aggregate lead.

Kazema Baso doubled the lead for Mazembe shortly after as they stamped their authority in the game.

The task became even more difficult for the Ghanaian champions after the break, as Mwaungulu scored his second of the game and his side’s third, putting the game beyond the reach of Medeama.

Dominic Amponsah scored a consolation goal for Medeam in the 87th minute as the game ended 3-1 and 4-1 on aggregate in favour of the DR Congo champions who advance into the next round of the competition.
