Workers have cut the first steel for Carnival Destiny, the line’s newest ship and the first vessel in Carnival’s new Ace Class, during a ceremony at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone.
The ship is slated to debut in summer 2029, kicking off a new generation of Carnival ships that will eventually include three vessels.
The ceremony also marked the official unveiling of the ship’s name and included a 3D hologram offering an early look at what Carnival says will be a fundamentally different kind of megaship.
A New Class of Ship
Carnival Destiny will be the first Ace-Class vessel, with sister ships already planned for 2031 and 2033.
The project also revives one of the best-known names in the company’s history. The original Carnival Destiny debuted in 1996 as the world’s largest cruise ship, becoming one of the defining vessels of its era.
More than three decades later, Carnival is once again using the Destiny name to launch what it sees as its next evolution.
Designed Around the Ocean
One of the biggest changes is how the ship connects guests with the sea.
Carnival says Destiny will become its most outward-facing megaship yet, with an unprecedented number of ocean-view balcony cabins, a redesigned lanai deck and more than 4.5 acres of glass throughout the vessel, including expansive multi-story glass walls intended to maximize ocean views from public spaces.
The goal is simple: keeping the sea in view from almost everywhere on board.
What’s New On Board
Carnival is also promising one of its biggest onboard overhauls in years.
More than 70 percent of the ship’s venues and attractions will be entirely new to the cruise line, including new dining concepts, redesigned bars and lounges, fresh entertainment venues and expanded outdoor spaces. Carnival has not yet released details on those experiences, saying more information will be announced later this year.
“Carnival Destiny builds on a legacy that changed cruising once before, reimagining what guests can experience at sea,” Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy said in a statement. “With this ship, we’re elevating the guest experience again, creating a ship that feels more expansive, while helping guests feel more connected and ultimately have more fun.”
Caribbean Itineraries Ahead
When Carnival Destiny enters service in summer 2029, the ship will sail to destinations within Carnival’s Paradise Collection, the company’s portfolio of exclusive destinations across the Caribbean, The Bahamas and Mexico.
Carnival has not yet announced the ship’s specific homeport or itineraries.
What You Need to Know
The steel-cutting ceremony marks the official start of construction on what will become one of Carnival’s most important new ships in years. Beyond adding capacity, the Ace Class represents a new design philosophy centered on ocean views and an entirely refreshed lineup of onboard experiences.
It’s another major new ship is on the horizon, one that is expected to spend much of its time sailing to the region when it debuts in 2029.
