Tap-to-pay adoption in Nigeria has received a boost following a new infrastructure partnership aimed at strengthening the country’s contactless payments ecosystem.
CashAfrica has announced a technology partnership with ChamsSwitch Limited, a licensed switching and processing company under Chams HoldCo. The collaboration is designed to enhance the reliability, compliance, and scalability of tap-to-pay services across Nigeria.
According to the announcement, CashAfrica’s NFC (Near Field Communication) contactless payment infrastructure will now operate on ChamsSwitch’s regulated switching and processing rails. This integration is expected to provide a more stable backbone for digital payment transactions, particularly as adoption of contactless payments continues to grow in the country.
The partnership is positioned to benefit multiple stakeholders in the financial ecosystem. For banks and fintech companies, it offers improved regulatory compliance assurance and access to a more robust switching infrastructure. For merchants, it is expected to enable more reliable and regulation-grade contactless payment experiences at point of sale.
The companies also suggest that the collaboration could accelerate broader adoption of tap-to-pay solutions in Nigeria by addressing infrastructure and trust barriers that have historically slowed down widespread usage of contactless payments.
Overall, the partnership reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital payments infrastructure and support the transition toward more seamless, contactless transaction systems across retail and financial services.
