By Zoila Palma: On June 12, 2026, the Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal against the conviction in the case of Laddie Gillet, upholding the judgment previously handed down.
“Throughout this long and difficult journey, our family has placed its faith in the rule of law and in the institutions entrusted with administering justice. While no decision can ever return Laddie to us, we respect the Court’s ruling and are grateful that the judicial process has been allowed to run its course,” the Justice for Laddie Foundation said.
The Foundation says that the court’s decision “reaffirms the importance of an independent judiciary and the vital role our courts play in ensuring accountability, fairness, and confidence in the administration of justice. We are thankful that the findings of the courts have been upheld and that the sentence imposed remains in effect.”
The Foundation says that it continues to mourn the loss of a bright young life taken far too soon, while taking comfort in knowing that justice has been pursued through the proper legal channels and upheld by the Court of Appeal.
In addition, the Foundation says that it was created not to remain defined by tragedy, but to transform loss into purpose.
“As we move forward, we remain committed to honoring Laddie’s memory by creating opportunities for youth, strengthening communities, and carrying forward the values that he embodied,” it added.
The Foundation also thanked everyone who have supported their family throughout this journey and who have stood alongside in seeking justice for Laddie.
