Croydon FC equalled their all-time highest scoring record on Saturday, thumping 11 goals past a hapless Chessington & Hook Utd at the Croydon Arena in South Norwood.

Croydon FC were founded in 1953 as Croydon Amateurs FC, with the team playing their first match at the then-brand new venue on the 5th September 1953.
The ground can be reached by taking a train to Elmers End and then embarking on a fairly short walk through the green and pleasant lands of the South Norwood Park.
Well I say ‘green and pleasant’ but it was a brown, wet and swampy quagmire on Saturday.

It was Brixton Buzz’s first visit to Croydon’s ground, and it’s a splendid affair, only marred by a ruddy great running track leaving the spectators some way from the action.
With a capacity of 450, the vintage main stand is a cracker.

The stand affords great views.

The stadium announcer does his thing.

That pesky running track.

A crowd of 79 watched the goal bonanza unfurl.
Here’s the list of scorers:

The club are nicknamed ‘The Trams’ on account of the tram line that runs behind the ground.

With Croydon leading 4-0 at half time, we checked out the well equipped bar, which is accessed via these steps.

The view from the outdoor seating.

We received a very warm welcome at the club, with fans and committee members all coming over for a chat. It was a lovely place to visit.
The club also hosts a nightclub/events space called the Arena Music Venue.

Tannoys ahoy!

The goal barrage continued in the second half as Croydon netted another seven goals to equal their all time record from January 1961 against Banstead Athletic.

A goalmouth scramble resulted in another goal for Croydon.
