President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation on Sunday evening on government's approach to illegal migration.
President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation on Sunday evening on government’s approach to illegal migration and the recent increase in protests targeting foreign nationals.
The address comes amid growing public concern over undocumented migration, as well as a rise in demonstrations calling for stricter immigration enforcement across the country.
According to the Presidency, Ramaphosa will outline government’s position and planned interventions following the approval of a migration strategy by Cabinet.
Address details
- Date: Sunday, 7 June
- Time: 18:00
- Venue: Union Buildings
The address follows comments by Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, who recently confirmed that Cabinet had approved the Inter-Ministerial Committee’s plan on migration.
Government is expected to provide clarity on measures aimed at managing illegal migration, strengthening border controls and addressing public concerns, while balancing South Africa’s constitutional and international obligations.
The speech comes ahead of planned demonstrations later this month, with several civic organisations calling for tougher action against undocumented migrants.
