Georgia Democrat Shawn Harris and Republican Clay Fuller will face each other in a runoff for a special election on April 7, when voters will decide who will replace former Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. Harris outpaced his Trump-backed opponent winning 37% (43,241) of the vote to Fuller 35% (40,388).

Harris, a Polk County cattle farmer and retired U.S. Army Brigadier General who ran against Greene in 2024, was able to build a wide-ranging coalition of Democrats, Independents and common-sense Republicans in the heavily conservative district. Although Green was the victor in that race, Harris ultimately garnered more votes than any other Democrat in over a decade.

Trump won that same district by a staggering 37 points in the 2024 presidential election.

Trump endorsed Fuller, the district attorney for northwest Georgia’s Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit. During a visit to the 14th distict last month Trump reiterated his support at a rally where he promoted his administration’s economic policies.

At the event, Fuller described himself as a “MAGA warrior.”
