The IRS has notified the undefeated boxing legend of its intent to revoke his U.S. passport over a delinquent tax debt exceeding $7.25 million in liens and levies, according to documents reviewed by The Ring.

The notification came in late March, weeks before Mayweather, 49, announced a June 27 exhibition against Greek kickboxer Mike Zambidis in Athens. That timing is significant — it means the passport threat was already in motion when the fight was announced, casting immediate doubt on whether Mayweather can travel internationally to compete.

The passport issue doesn’t stop there. A planned exhibition between Mayweather and former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is equally uncertain. Announced last September with no confirmed date or venue, the bout was under the direction of promoter CSI Sports, which had a contractual deadline of April 30 to stage the event. An extension to May 30 was agreed upon, but sources indicate the Democratic Republic of Congo had been discussed as a potential location — a site that would be completely off the table if Mayweather loses his passport.

Meanwhile, negotiations for a highly anticipated rematch between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao continue behind the scenes. Netflix announced the bout on February 23 as a professional fight. Despite Mayweather later characterizing it as an exhibition, documents he signed confirm its professional status. Sources indicate the venue has shifted from The Sphere to either MGM Grand Garden Arena or T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao, 47, made his position clear during an April 13 appearance on “Inside The Ring,” saying, “I wouldn’t fight an exhibition. It’s either a real fight or nothing.”

Mayweather has options to resolve the tax issue — including full payment, an installment agreement, a DOJ settlement, or filing for bankruptcy — but time is running short across all fronts.
