The $35 million Gros Islet Police Divisional Headquarters opened to the public on Monday, April 20. Commissioned by Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre on February 19, the facility is located on a 2.6-acre site.
With the opening of the new facility, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force says operations will be conducted from both the Rodney Bay and Gros Islet Police Stations.
Stations previously located at the Gros Islet Human Resource Centre will move to the new headquarters.
As part of this reorganisation, the Rodney Bay Police Station will be assigned to the Rangers Unit, which is responsible for protecting beaches, national parks, and monuments. Gros Islet Police will continue to maintain a presence at the Rodney Bay Police Station alongside the Rangers Unit.
The Gros Islet Police Divisional Headquarters aims to enhance security in the north of the island, which has experienced significant residential, commercial and tourism growth over the past decade. The facility includes police barracks, a detention area, an armoury, a gym and offices for criminal investigations, traffic units, and special services.
