President Donald Trump can’t seem to help himself when it comes to saying anything that comes into his mind without any restraint whatsoever. But his latest controversial comments were so egregious that the White House even removed the video of him making them from its website, but not before social media got hold of it.
At an Easter luncheon at the White House on Wednesday, April 1, Trump did another astounding 180 on a campaign promise, similar to his pledge as a candidate vowing to make “America first” and take the U.S. out of foreign conflicts and wars, which he has violated repeatedly in just 14 months in office.

This time, he called daycare “a scam” and said “it’s not possible” for the federal government to help American families, that the states should handle it, after telling Americans on at least two different occasions during the 2024 presidential campaign that daycare was an important issue and that he planned to help families cover the costs.
“We can’t take care of daycare,” Trump insisted to those having lunch with him. “We’re a big country. We have 50 states. We have all these other people. We’re fighting wars. We can’t take care of daycare.”
“You got to let a state take care of daycare, and they should pay for it too,” he proclaimed before insisting, “They should pay. They’ll have to raise their taxes, but they should pay for it. And we could lower our taxes a little bit to them to make up. It’s not possible for us to take care of day care, Medicaid, Medicare — all these individual things.”
To suggest raising taxes on working families after giving wealthy Americans a massive tax cut in his “One Big Beautiful Bill” while cutting more than a trillion dollars from safety net programs millions rely on isn’t something most Americans who supported Trump voted for, critics contend.
Republicans also let Affordable Care Act subsidies, which millions of Americans relied on, expire at the end of December, causing health insurance premiums to double and even triple in cost.
“You can’t do it on a federal. We have to take care of one thing: military protection. We have to guard the country. But all these little things, all these little scams that have taken place, you have to, you have to let states take care of them,” Trump nonsensically spewed, suggesting daycare is “a scam,” and seemingly unaware of the federal government’s full responsibility toward Americans which is much more than just national security, and that opponents argue is now in danger over Trump’s ongoing war in Iran.
While Trump boasts about cutting safety nets for the neediest Americans, the Pentagon has spent over $38 billion on the Iran war so far, according to reports.
The president also made another eye-popping remark at the lunch, referring to a speech he was preparing to deliver later that evening, “Tonight I’m making a little speech at 9 o’clock, and basically I’m gonna tell everybody how great I am.”
Social media erupted in outrage and disbelief over Trump’s latest contemptible rantings.
“He is an embarrassment,” X user Alli Olabisi stated about a meme showing Trump and a quote from former Illinois Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger, including that Trump is “a weak man pretending to be strong” and a “faithless man pretending to be righteous.”
Another chimed in, “He promised with the money he was going to take in with tariffs that day care would be easy to take care of. He promised childcare for all saying it was relatively cheap. He lied again. All we get is wars, invasions, and stripped of our healthcare. #releasethetrumpsteinfiles.”
The social media user referring there to a 2024 appearance at the Economic Club of New York, where Trump described child care as a “very important issue,” according to MS Now, and that, “In this country you have to have it,” before suggesting his tariff policy would help pay for day care if he were re-elected.
“As much as child care is talked about as being expensive, it’s relatively speaking, not very expensive compared to the kind of numbers we’ll be taking in,” he told voters at the time.
Another angry X user pointed out, “He’s a piece of work. It’s the peoples money not his. The people need healthcare and help with certain expenses. If he’d stop golfing it would save $100,000,000 that could help with medicare!!!”
But this poster probably said it best, “Words spoken by the same guy who couldn’t see that attacking Iran would result in the closing of the Straight of Hormuz. No daycare, one parent has to stay home… less family income. He doesn’t understand how anything is connected. . . because he’s a moron.”
But the debacle at the Easter event didn’t end there. Trump toady and senior adviser to the White House Faith Office Paula White-Cain audaciously compared Trump to Jesus.
The prosecutor says he has no idea who the confidential informant is.
“You were betrayed and arrested and falsely accused. It’s a familiar pattern that our Lord and Savior showed us. …Sir, because of His resurrection, you rose up,” she declared while fawning over Trump.
Former MSNBC commentator Mehdi Hasan noted, “I feel embarrassed for a lot of Christians in this country.”
And Rev. Benjamin Cremer spoke the truth:
“This is blasphemy. This is what it sounds like to take Jesus’ name in vain.”
