The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has announced restrictions and rules for people attending the upcoming Zulu Reed Dance.

HERE’S WHAT NOT TO DO AT THE UPCOMING ZULU REED DANCE

The main event of the annual Reed Dance, also known as Umkhosi Womhlanga, will take place from 12-13 September at the eMashobeni Palace in Pongola.

This second leg follows the first one held at the eMachobeni Palace in Ngwavuma, from 5-6 September. This event attracted thousands of maidens and distinguished guests, such as Ukhozi FM’s Nonhlanhla “Mroza” Buthelezi and the ANC’s Nomvula Mokonyane.

The eMashobeni Palace is home to Queen Sihle Mdhluli, the fourth wife of King MisuZulu KaZwelithini, while his third wife, Queen Nomzamo KaMyeni, resides at the eMachobeni Palace.

In an Instagram post, the department clearly outlined what visitors are cautioned from doing or wearing during the Reed Dance.

1.  No Drugs

2. No Alcohol

3. No Weapons

4. No Pants for Women

5. No Hats for Men

6. No Low-Angle Photography

7. No Unauthorised Drones

Nqubeko Ndlela, a trusted broadcaster, posted some behind the scenes visuals from the eMashobeni palace ahead of this weekend’s festivities.
