A consignment of illegal drugs has been seized at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.

In what was described by officials as ‘swift and decisive operation,’ the multi-agency team led by the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) conducted a verification exercise on a highly suspicious consignment at the United Parcel Service, which is a G4S Security firm’s facility within the Kenya Airways (KQ) Shed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The operation was conducted at the JKIA on the 6th May 2026, at around 11:30 hours.

The teams managed to trace the parcel which was being transported from Nairobi City to Las Piñas in the Philippines.

Las Pinas happens to be a highly urbanized city in the National Capital Region of the Philippines which is being regarded as among the best places to live in the world.

According to the 2024 census, Las Piñas has a population of 615,549 residents.

It is not known if the drugs consignment passing through Nairobi to Philippines had originated from Kenya or was simply being shipped through JKIA.

All the same, the suspected parcel had been cleverly labelled and declared as ‘handmade bags and clothes.’

However, upon what was again reported to be ‘meticulous physical examination,’ conducted in the presence of the joint security team, the Kenyan officers uncovered the sinister cargo.

The packets, apparently had contained white crystal substances carefully concealed inside two handbags, both wrapped in clear bags.

Then preliminary tests were run on the packets which confirmed the substance to be Methamphetamine, weighing 1,320 grams with an estimated street value of Kenya shilling 10,560,000 or equivalent to USD 85,000.

The rather expensive illegal consignment has since been seized by the authorities in Nairobi and is currently being detained as exhibit.

Meanwhile, investigations are underway to bring the traffickers involved in the racket to book.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenya says it remains steadfast in their resolve to dismantle these drug networks through intelligence-driven operations and seamless multi-agency collaboration.
