A NEW continental awards platform, the African Excellence Hall of Fame, has been launched to honour and celebrate outstanding African achievers across various sectors.
The inaugural awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at a Harare hotel on July 18.
“The initiative seeks to celebrate individuals driving innovation, social transformation and excellence in fields ranging from science and technology to the arts and community development, while creating a platform to amplify African success stories beyond national borders,” reads part of the statement released by the organisers.
The organisers said Africa was endowed with exceptional talent, including late icons such as Lucky Dube and Oliver Mtukudzi, whose contributions deserved continued recognition and celebration.
“Apart from music, we have brilliant minds in business, sport and academics among other sectors,” reads part of the statement.
The organisers added that nominations were now open to organisations and individuals from across the continent, with members of the public expected to vote for shortlisted nominees.
The event will also feature the “Greatest of All Time Awards”, aimed at honouring legendary African figures whose influence has shaped the continent and inspired future generations.
According to the organisers, the initiative will also be supported by a dedicated YouTube channel designed to showcase the stories, achievements and impact of Africans excelling on the global stage.
The African Excellence Hall of Fame said it was inviting Africans from across the continent and the diaspora to nominate individuals who have made notable contributions in their respective fields.
The ceremony is expected to attract dignitaries, industry stakeholders and prominent personalities from across Africa.
