Washing and styling your textured hair, or someone else’s in your family, requires a serious time commitment. Kaleidoscope CEO and Founder, Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart aims to make the styling process easier with her new line, Curl Math.

Harris-Dupart is a veteran hairstylist who retired in 2017. “I was the Marcel iron, relaxer, sew-in with a leave out type of hairstylist. So, we were embracing our natural curls but not as much as we are now,” she explained. “But I listen to my consumers, and I wanted to give them the products they need.”

The Realities of Wash Day

Easy is not a word that is used about wash day when you have textured hair. “A wash day for a Black woman is complicated already. You’re not going into the shower and washing your hair,” Harris-Dupart noted. “So, I wanted to come out with stylers specifically for curly hair. That made it an easy solution.”

The reality star and beauty entrepreneur believes that our wash day and styling experiences shouldn’t be cumbersome or something we dread. Her goal is to simplify the experience while still offering the results we are looking for.

Dupart-Harris Speaks from Experience

The Washing and styling your textured hair, or someone else’s in your family, requires a serious time commitment. Kaleidoscope CEO and Founder, Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart aims to make the styling process easier with her new line, Curl Mat founder has been wearing her hair natural for years. But when her bleached blonde hair turned pink, broke off and fell out, after an unfortunate color session around 2019, Dupart-Harris did a big chop.

During her TWA stage, she had to get out of her comfort zone. “I was walking around looking Florida Evanish. But I learned how to do my hair in different ways,” she said. “My favorite thing is a wash and go. I like my hair bushy at the root, but defined on the ends because I like volume. So, I wanted to come out with something curl friendly, but also about definition.”

The Curl Math Line

Dupart-Harris had a specific vision for the Curl Math line, but it took several years to bring it to fruition. The eight-product line designed to address to most common styling challenges for coily, curly, and wavy hair including definition, hold, shrinkage, frizz, refresh, and foundation, through smart formulation and flexible, mix-and-match usage. The affordable line (products are between $15.99-$16.99) is formulated without sulfates and mineral oil, is infused with Pomegranate and Shea Butter.

Here are the products in the line:

The Perfect Ratio a gel-to-foam defining mousse combines the essential hold of a gel with the bounce and movement of a mousse. The long-lasting formula controls frizz without leaving hair stiff or flaky.

Solve for Definition is a custard formula that enhances curl pattern, moisture and shine.

The Length Formula is a leave-in condition and curl cream in one product. It stretches curls, reduces shrinkage, and boosts softness and hydration.

The Bounce Back Formula is a spray curl refresher that revives hair with leaving a residue behind. Flex Factor is a hairspray designed especially for textured hair. It allows for natural movement while also offering humidity resistance, frizz control, and shine.

The Root Formula allows you to gently shampoo hair with a sulfate-free formula that removes buildup without stripping the hair.

The Smooth Solution conditions tresses while keeping frizz at bay while also softening the hair, hydrating it, and making it more manageable.

Dupart-Harris’ favorite product is The Perfect Ratio. “It is the one [styling] product you can do your hair with. If you have 4C hair, you may want to combine it with the custard, Solv for Definition.”

Curl Math is available at iluvcolors.com, Sally Beauty Walmart, and CVS.
