Kenya ICT Authority Expands Digital Learning Rollout to 377 Junior Schools in Nyeri

Kenya’s ICT Authority  has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding technology-enabled learning as the second phase of the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) continues across the country.

The latest rollout took place at Nyaribo Junior School in Nyeri County, where Principal Secretary for the State Department for East African Community Affairs and Acting Principal Secretary for the State Department for ASALs and Regional Development, Amb. Dr. Caroline W. Karugu, said digital technologies are making learning more engaging and improving knowledge sharing across schools.

Representing ICT Authority CEO Jessy Kiveu Maruti, Deputy Director for Programmes and Standards Project Management Thomas O. Odhiambo said all 377 public junior schools in Nyeri County are set to receive interactive smart boards and teacher laptops under the programme.

Nationally, more than 62,000 teachers have already been trained to integrate digital technology into classroom teaching. The Nyeri event also included demonstrations by learners using interactive smart boards.

The DLP Phase II rollout is being implemented by the ICT Authority under the Kenya Digital Economy Acceleration Project (KDEAP), with support from the World Bank. The programme forms part of Kenya’s broader digital transformation efforts, particularly the expansion of digital skills and technology-enabled education.
