A new British social thriller is quietly assembling a strong cast. Lucian Msamati, Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ́, Merv Lukeba and Paul Kaye are set to lead Found, an upcoming feature currently in development.
The film is being produced by Kalungi Ssebandeke through Sse So Production alongside Henry Hereford’s Lucky Sunday Pictures. Ssebandeke will make his feature directorial debut on the project, directing from his own original script. Hereford, whose credits include To Leslie, serves as producer alongside Ssebandeke.
The ensemble cast also includes Joseph Arkley (The Capture), Jumayn Hunter (Attack the Block) and Doreene Blackstock (Sex Education).
Set in a southern English town, the film follows Xavier Prince (Lukeba), a deeply troubled man whose good deed spirals into a nightmare when he finds himself accused of murder. With only circumstantial evidence stacked against him and the fear that revealing a recent relapse could cost him access to his young daughter, Xavier turns to his estranged childhood sweetheart Sadie (Adékọluẹ́jọ́), now studying criminal law, to help uncover the truth before the justice system closes in.
Speaking on the project, Ssebandeke describes Found as a story about everyday lives caught in the grip of unconscious bias and the devastating consequences that can follow. The film aims to explore those realities with authenticity, with plans to collaborate with organisations within the criminal justice system as the project develops.
Ssebandeke is a playwright, artist and filmmaker whose debut play Assata Taught Me premiered in London in 2017, starring Adjoa Andoh as Assata Shakur. The production returns to Riverside Studios this May with a new cast. In 2023, he also won the JMK Directing Award for his production of Meetings by Mustapha Matura at the Orange Tree Theatre and currently works as an acting tutor at London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Behind the camera, Damian Paul Daniel (The Black Cop) is attached as Director of Photography, with Liza Carmel (Luther: The Fallen Sun) serving as Line Producer.
