A Jamaican national has pleaded guilty to drug trafficking after police and customs officers seized 41 pounds of cannabis at the Deep Water Harbour in 2024.
The controlled drug was found concealed inside two boxes during a joint operation at the country’s main seaport on March 8, 2024. The cannabis was valued at an estimated $246,000.
Damar Sappleton, who is in his late 30s and had been living in Bendals, was arrested and charged with drug trafficking following the discovery. He was placed on remand as his case made its way from the Magistrates’ Court to the High Court.
Sappleton appeared before new High Court Judge John Spencer yesterday and entered his guilty plea. When given the opportunity to address the court, he told the judge he simply wanted to go home.
Judge Spencer highlighted the seriousness of the charge before remanding Sappleton to His Majesty’s Prison, where he will remain until sentencing on June 5th.
