By Zoila Palma: On June 11, 2026, representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, the Department of Cooperatives, and the Ministry of New Growth Industries visited Green Zone Ranch, where they toured the Sembrando Vida Biofactory to observe its progress and learn more about the work being carried out by local farmers.
The delegation included Andrew Mejia, Director of Extension; Gareth Murillo, Registrar of Cooperatives; Ag. Director in the Ministry of New Growth Industries; Hugh O’Brien, Advisor to the Minister; and Melissa Balan, Ag. District Agriculture Officer (DAO) along with Levi Shol , Superviser/Coordinator in the Sustainable and Inclusive Belize (SAIB) Project and Elbert Cowo from SIRDI attached to the SAIB project.
During their visit, the team also stopped at the Sarteneja United Farmers booth, where they had the opportunity to interact with farmers, learn about their initiatives, and gain a better understanding of the work being done to strengthen agriculture and community development in Sarteneja.
Following the tour, members of the delegation, farmers, and guests gathered at a seaside area near Cancuncito for a fellowship lunch featuring the traditional dish Cochinita Pibil, prepared by members of Sarteneja United Farmers and Sarteneja Farmers.
