By Hugh O’Brien: On Saturday, 13 June 2026, just around 8:30 pm, police received information regarding a male person who was observed with apparent injuries to his head and face in the North Side area of Caye Caulker Village. Police responded to the location and, upon arrival, learned that the injured male had already been transported to the Caye Caulker Polyclinic.
At the clinic, police observed a Hispanic male dressed in a black shirt and brown three-quarter-length Dickies pants. His head was wrapped with a piece of clothing, and he was lying face-up, apparently motionless. Further examination revealed three cut wounds to the left side of his head and one cut wound to the front portion of his head.
The injured male was identified as 45-year-old Oscar Flota, a Belizean labourer of North Side, Caye Caulker Village.
Initial investigations revealed that Flota was socializing with several other male persons at a residence on the North Side of the island when an argument reportedly escalated into a physical altercation. During the incident, one of the male persons allegedly picked up a shovel and struck Flota several times to the head.
As a result of the injuries sustained, Flota was rushed to the Caye Caulker Polyclinic where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Flota’s body will be transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
