By Zoila Palma: Police Constable (PC) Wilbert Gillett of the Belize Police Department (BPD) secured 1st Place Overall in the 10K at the Belize City Half Marathon, 5K & 10K held on Sunday and hosted by the Belize City Council.
The BPD also fielded officers in both the 5K and 10K events, giving its runners an opportunity to compete, challenge themselves and test their preparation. Gillett’s overall victory highlighted the department’s strong performance during the event.
The race also forms part of the BPD’s preparations for the 4th International Police Sport Union (USIP) World Police Games, scheduled for October 26–30, 2026, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Belize Police officers are preparing to compete in four disciplines: running, swimming, judo and basketball.
The BPD congratulated PC Gillett and all of its participating runners, emphasizing that preparations for the international competition will continue through training and competition.
