Reflection: As we prepare to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States, my faith in America’s foundational promises—enshrined in the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence—has been deeply shaken in the era of Trump. Trump, the Modern-Day Republican party, the US Supreme Court, and his supporters have ushered in the worst of America. I do not love this version of our country. Today, I find it difficult to sing our national anthem, recite the Pledge of Allegiance, or fly the American flag.
