*A political campaign in Nigeria ended in controversy after questions over age eligibility led to the disqualification of Mahmud Sadis Buba from the All Progressives Congress House of Representatives race, Oddity Central reports.

Buba, who is popularly referred to as Abin Al-Ajabin Zazzau, meaning “The Wonder of Zaria,” first gained widespread attention after a video from the APC selection process circulated online. The footage showed him addressing party officials while outlining his background, quickly drawing public interest across social media platforms.

In the video, Buba stated that he held a senior secondary school qualification and had previously worked as a driver. He also claimed he was 30 years old and explained his small stature by attributing it to dwarfism. His comment, “It is not about me, it is from the people. People called me to serve them, and I will serve,” was widely shared and frequently referenced in political discussions online.

However, scrutiny soon followed as inconsistencies emerged regarding his age. While Buba maintained that he was born in 1995, documents circulating online, including identification records and school-related files, suggested a possible 2010 birth year. If accurate, that timeline would place him below the minimum age requirement of 25 for Nigeria’s National Assembly.

Further allegations added to the controversy, including claims from a former teacher who reportedly said he had taught Buba in junior secondary school and estimated him to be around 16 years old at the time. Additional materials shared publicly included references to identification documents such as a passport, national identity slip, and birth records.

The All Progressives Congress initially dismissed the allegations, describing them as an attempt to discredit its screening process and candidate selection. However, as the claims gained traction, the party ultimately disqualified Buba on the basis of alleged age falsification.

Buba later withdrew from the race in a formal letter submitted to party leadership. In the letter, he confirmed his decision to step down from the contest for the Sabon Gari Federal Constituency seat, citing internal consultations and reconciliation efforts within the party structure.
