URA eyes Jimmy Kintu as Hussein Mbalangu nears exit

The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) FC is actively restructuring its technical department ahead of the new campaign, with Express FC tactician Jimmy Kintu emerging as the frontrunner to take over the dugout.

The aggressive pursuit of Kintu comes as the Tax Collectors plan to restructure the technical team. Current head coach Hussein Mbalangu is expected to part ways with the Tax Collectors after a brief stint.

Sources close to the club indicate that URA’s top hierarchy is highly impressed by Kintu’s recent track record. He heavily enhanced his reputation over the past season, successfully steering Express FC through a turbulent campaign defined by severe financial constraints.

URA views Kintu as the ideal candidate to rebuild the squad and bring a fresh tactical identity. While St. Mary’s SS Kitende coach Hassan Zzungu remains on the club’s radar as a potential alternative, Kintu is firmly positioned as the primary target for the role.

Mbalangu was appointed on a short-term contract in December to steady the ship following the departure of Alex Isabirye.

While he successfully guided the team to the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, the Tax Collectors were ultimately knocked out by SC Villa, sealing an underperforming campaign.

URA finished an underwhelming 11th in the Uganda Premier League standings, securing just 31 points.

This poor domestic showing forced the club’s leadership to call an urgent meeting with Mbalangu. The board has summoned the coach for discussions, with all internal signs pointing to an imminent, mutual separation.

With pre-season preparations fast approaching, URA is expected to finalise Mbalangu’s exit and accelerate contract negotiations with Kintu in the coming days to restore the club’s competitive edge.

Since leaving Calvary, Kintu has had a decent run at Express, despite the tough working environment, although they were still playing good football.
