Vipers crowned for the 8th time as UPL concludes

For the eighth time since the inception of the national league in 1968, Vipers were crowned the champions lifting the 2025/26 league trophy in front of their own fans at St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende.

On the coronation day, the hosts beat visiting Express 2-0 with goals from Karim Watambala and substitute Gusto Mulongo.

Watambala converted from the spot two minutes into the second half after Yunus Sentamu was felled in the area.

Mulongo sealed the win with a brilliantly taken goal in the 69th minute for the Venoms to finish on 67 points, five ahead of second placed KCCA.

In the absence Fufa President Moses Magogo, second FA Vice President Taibu Azar flanked by Vipers bankroller Lawrence Mulindwa and league sponsors StarTimes representatives, the trophy was handed to captain Milton Karisa to the delight of the crowd clad in club home jerseys.

It was partying after the ceremony with several artists led DJs Ssuuna Ben and Mbaziira Tony leading the way.

At Lugogo, KCCA ended on a high note beating Mbarara City 4-1 with goals from golden boot winner Ivan Ahimbisibwe, Ettiene Katenga and substitute Emmanuel Anyama and Kennedy Muserero.

Mbarara City captain Clinton Kamugisha scored the visitors’ consolation who had Karim Ramadhan sent off late in the second half.

SC Villa, auditioned for the Stanbic Uganda Cup with a 2-1 win over UPDF with goals from Isaac Mpagi and Patrick Kakande while Emmanuel Manu Ochen got the army side’s consolation.

The Jogoos ends the season in third place with 61 points, six behind the champions.

At Royals Park, Butema, Kitara twice came from behind to salvage a draw against visiting Police.

Umar Kasumba twice put the visitors, 6th on the log with 47 points in the lead with Patrick Kaddu and Jimmy Kalema restoring parity as Daniel Jakony saw red.

Kitara, who finishes 4th on 56 points and now turns focus on Uganda Cup final scheduled for Saturday May 30 at Kadiba.

Elsewhere, Maroons snatched 8th position with a late show as they edged hosts Lugazi 1-0 at Lugazi with a strike from Dickson Niwamanya.

Entebbe UPPC were the biggest winners on the day hammering BUL 4-0 with a brace from Eric Ssenjobe and a goal apiece from Laban Tibita and Emmanuel Isat sealing 6th place with 51 points.

NEC ended the season on a low note losing 2-0 to already relegated Calvary with goals Lawrence Olaboro and Shukur Said.
