This week’s What To Watch brings new beginnings, returning favourites and a few big names back to our screens…

A Different World heads back to Hillman College with a new generation, while Sharlene Whyte stars in new comedy Youth. Alison Hammond returns to the Bake Off tent, Angela Bassett and Gabourey Sidibe are among the familiar faces in American Horror Story, and Danny Sapani and Jorden Myrie feature in Marble Hall Murders.

Plus, JAY-Z looks back over 30 years since Reasonable Doubt in the new eight-part series JAY-Z in 8.

Journalist and author Isabel Wilkerson is approached to write a story about the killing of Trayvon Martin in 2012. Developing her theories about the interconnected histories of racism, bigotry and subjugation, she begins to research and write her book Caste: the Origins of Our Discontents, all the while struggling with emotional upheavals and losses in her personal life.

Starring Aunjanue Ellis, Niecy Nash, Emily Yancy, Blair Underwood & more.

Youth – Monday 21st September | HBO Max

Follows a 50-year-old divorcee’s search for sex and love whilst juggling caring for her ailing parents and parenting her should-be grown-up son.

A Different World – Thursday 24th September | Netflix

A Different World returns to Hillman College with a new class stepping onto campus and beloved faces coming home. At the centre is Deborah Wayne, Whitley and Dwayne’s lovingly sheltered youngest daughter, a free spirit with a flair for the spotlight and a big heart who’s still figuring out her own path at Hillman. Along the way, she’s joined by a new generation that reflects the breadth of Black life on campus.

Marble Hall Murders: S3 – Saturday 26th September @ 9:35pm | BBC One

Editor Susan Ryeland is hired to work on a continuation novel of the Atticus Pünd series, written by a troubled young author. When the job leads Susan into another murder case, she unexpectedly finds herself a suspect. In the world of the novel, Atticus Pünd is visiting the Isle of Corfu when he becomes embroiled in the murder of Lady Margaret Chalfont, whose family he investigates with the assistance of a Greek detective.
