Connecting returning residents with jobs, resources, and pathways to opportunity

As part of MKE Peace Week 2026, Mayor Cavalier Johnson will host “Back 2 Block: Reentry & Opportunity Night,” an evening focused on supporting individuals returning from incarceration and those working to get back on track.

On Tuesday, May 19th from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m., Milwaukee City Hall will be transformed into a space centered on second chances, opportunity, and community support. The event will bring together employers, workforce development organizations, community groups, and support service providers to help connect residents with jobs, housing resources, mentorship, and other critical services that support successful reentry.
“Too many people get trapped in cycles that are difficult to break. This event is about opening doors, creating opportunity, and making sure Milwaukee is a city where people can successfully rebuild their lives,” said Mayor Cavalier Johnson.

The evening will also feature a discussion beginning at 6:00 p.m. led by Adam Procell, Co-Founder of Paradigm Shyft, and former Director of the Department of Community Wellness and Safety. The conversation will focus on the challenges and opportunities facing individuals involved in the justice system, as well as the resources, support systems, and pathways available to help residents successfully reenter the community.

MKE Peace Week is a coordinated, citywide effort that brings together City departments, community-based organizations, schools, faith leaders, and residents around a shared commitment to building a safer Milwaukee.
