The Mexican-American artist has been an avid supporter of both the Mexican and U.S.A. national teams during the monthlong match that’s being hosted in Canada, Mexico and the U.S., sharing in an interview with Whistle: “I’m a proud Chicana. I’m Mexican-American.”

“Born and raised in Los Angeles, it’s been quite the festivities,” she said in the chat posted Tuesday (June 30). “Throughout all of the city, seeing so many communities come together to experience this World Cup. And to know that we are from one of the hosting countries, and then actually got to be the opener in Mexico. I don’t think I’ll ever experience anything as magical.”

The “MAMIII” singer has also been rooting for both teams from the bleachers, attending the kickoff Mexico vs. South Africa game on June 11 at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico, and the U.S. vs. Paraguay match at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on June 12. Mexico advanced to the round of 16 after beating Ecuador with a 2-0 score on Tuesday (June 30). The U.S. will play its round of 32 against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday (July 1).

“It’s the pride that we take to be from where we’re from, and as a 200 percenter, I have two flags to represent, and I feel so honored and grateful for that,” she continued. “Something that really moved me was when I was in Mexico, and my dear friend, Tyla, sang the national anthem for her country. Her team and my team were competing against each other. It was so beautiful to get to see a peer of mine, with whom I collaborated, take on such a huge honor for her country, and to get to do that made me a bit emotional.” (At the 2025 Billboard Women in Music event, Becky G presented her “On My Body” collaborator with the Impact Award.)

As for the best World Cup hype song, the singer opted for a more patriotic tune.

“My heart immediately goes to this land is your land; this land is my land,” she expressed of the Woody Guthrie classic. “This really is a space that is meant for, inspired by and made by so many people and countries that come to the United States. People are coming to this place for that warm welcome of what it is to be in this land of opportunity.”
