JACK Uppal’s journey is the kind of story that inspires. A Canadian with extensive international experience, Uppal now leads General Motors Canada as President and Managing Director, bringing a global perspective to the vehicles millions of Canadians drive every day.
Uppal, who began his career with GM Canada, assumed the new leadership role earlier this year after heading GM’s operations in Africa and the Middle East. He says returning to Canada is more than a career move — it’s an opportunity to shape the future of a company deeply connected to Canadians’ daily lives.
“Coming home to lead GM Canada is an incredible opportunity,” he said in a recent statement. “Our focus is on providing Canadians with vehicles that meet every need, from everyday commuting to weekend adventures, and accelerating our growth in electric vehicles.”
Through GM’s four brands in Canada — Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC — Uppal is keen to build on the automaker’s success, with GM Canada sustaining its position having recently been crowned the number one automaker in the country for the third consecutive year.
In 2025, nearly 300,000 Canadians chose GM vehicles, with British Columbia standing out as a key market. GM captured 16.6 per cent of B.C.’s market, driven by strong sales across trucks, SUVs, and electric vehicles.
A major area of growth is Cadillac’s electric vehicle lineup. Cadillac has become Canada’s top luxury EV brand, achieving six consecutive years of record sales. Electric vehicles now make up over 40 per cent of Cadillac sales, with Vancouver being the fastest-growing EV market in the country.

Uppal emphasizes that GM’s success comes from offering Canadians real choice across all segments. “From mainstream vehicles to luxury, gas or electric, there is no single path that works for every driver,” he said. “Our broad portfolio ensures Canadians can find a vehicle that fits their lifestyle — whether commuting, traveling on weekends, or supporting a growing family.”
SUVs continue to resonate with B.C. families, with models such as Chevrolet’s Equinox and Traverse, and the Buick Enclave, prized for space, versatility, and all-weather capability. Meanwhile, Cadillac’s luxury EV growth demonstrates that Vancouver buyers are embracing technology, performance, and sustainability in equal measures.
Uppal’s leadership shows how global experience and Canadian roots can come together to drive innovation at home.
