Don Toliver Dodges the Police Thanks to Helicopter Extraction by Kali Uchis in High-Speed ‘E85’ Video: Watch
The Octane opener has remained in the Billboard Hot 100's top 40 since its January release.
He does his own stunts. After initially teasing the clip to close out his Rolling Loud Orlando performance, Don Toliver released the “E85” music video on Wednesday (May 13).
Directed by Shadrinsky, Toliver is involved in a high-speed chase while driving his Porsche 918 down the highway and being chased by a gang of police cars as if he racked up a six-star wanted level in Grand Theft Auto.
The Houston native is aggressively apprehended and brought into custody. Cops continue to press him in the interrogation room, with the clip shot mostly from an officer’s bodycam point of view. Toliver gets into a scuffle with the officers and ends up in possession of one of their guns mid-altercation before making a run to the station’s rooftop.
Kali Uchis to the rescue. The Cactus Jack artist’s real-life partner lands the chopper on the roof and successfully extracts Toliver, who dangles from the helicopter’s skids, to complete the escape mission.
“E85” sits at No. 35 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 and the Octane opener has remained inside the top 40 since its release in January.
Fans began to speculate on Friday (May 8) that the 31-year-old was actually being detained by officers in Florida as footage from the visual hit social media, but he closed the loop on the rumors when Toliver played parts of the music video to close out his headlining set later that night at Rolling Loud Orlando.
Don Toliver is currently on the road as part of his Octane Tour, which stopped in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Tuesday night (May 12). Next up, he’ll return to his hometown of Houston for a homecoming show at the Toyota Center on Thursday (May 14).
Toliver released Octane in January, which earned him his first No. 1 album atop the Billboard 200 with 162,000 total album-equivalent units, according to Luminate.
